The Higaonna Dojo is dedicated to the practice and dissemination of Okinawan Gojo Ryu karate, as founded and systemized by Chojun Miyagi Sensei. Training is traditional with an emphasis on body conditioning, (hojo undo), the study of fundamental technique, (kihon) and the perfection of the Goju Ryu kata as they were bequeathed to us by Miyagi Sensei.
Our senior instructor is Morio Higaonna Sensei 10th Dan, Hanshi. He is assisted by Kuramoto Sensei, and instructors Arangio-Febbo, Miyagi, and Pawlik.

Morio Higaonna began his study of Goju Ryu karate at the dojo of its founder, Chojun Miyagi Sensei, in 1955. He soon distinguished himself as a dedicated student with natural ability, and was consequently taken under the wing of An’ichi Miyagi, a student of the Founder in the postwar years.
After graduating from university in Tokyo, he dedicated his life to karate, and soon become the most widely recognized, and respected Goju Ryu instructor in the world. His Yoyogi Dojo in Tokyo attracted students as famous as Donn F. Draeger, Harry Cook, and Terry O’Neill.
A prolific author, Higaonna Sensei has written five books and produced at least eighteen full length instructional DVDs on Gju Ryu karate. He is presently conducting research into the life of Chojun Miyagi (1888-1953) for a biography.
